Services

1. HISTOPATHOLOGY (Biopsy Request Form)The histopathology laboratory is well-equipped with various histochemical stains and immunohistochemistry for tissue diagnosis pertaining to the disciplines of neurosciences and cardiothoracic surgery.

 

Intraoperative tissue diagnosis

Squash smear preparation and/or cryosections
Sample: Fresh tissue in a clean container

Immunohistochemistry

Immunohistochemistry is performed by manual staining method using standardized procedure.
Sample: Paraffin blocks or tissue in formalin

Muscle, nerve and skin biopsies

Sample: Muscle (for enzyme histochemistry and immunohistochemistry)

• • • • • Fresh muscle wrapped in saline moistened gauze to reach the lab within 30 minutes
        • Samples will be received between 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
        • The laboratory should be informed 1 day in advance before sending samples

Nerve: 2.5% glutaraldehyde

Skin: 2.5% glutaraldehyde

2. CYTOLOGY (Request Form)

CSF and body fluids for morphology/malignant cells

Sample:

• • • Any body fluid in clean container
    • Samples should be sent soon after collection
    • In case of any delay, samples should be stored in refrigerator 2-8ºC (Do not freeze)

Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC)

3. IMMUNOLOGY (Request Form)

Samples:

• • • Serum samples: 2 ml blood to be sent in vacutainer without any anticoagulant (red capped)
    • CSF samples: 1-2 ml in a clean and plain vial
    • Samples should reach the laboratory as soon as possible after collection
    • Samples will be received between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

4. Autopsy

• • • Autopsies will be performed whenever required.
    • Informed consent from the next of kin for the autopsy (including the extent of autopsy) should be obtained.
    • Faculty should be informed after the consent is obtained.
    • For autopsies after working hours the faculty can be contacted through the reception.
